The benefit of vaping cannabis concentrates is that nearly all atomizers on the market right now draw relatively low power from the battery. If you think about it, a Pico Istick battery can provide up to 85 watts of power if needed but most atomizers use only around 15-25 watts. This is great because it allows for more sessions and overall lower battery use. But before you plug any atomizer into any battery, check out these safety tips for your wax pen.
Wax Pen Battery Safety Tips:
- Make sure the battery is able to provide enough power to the atomizer. If the atomizer draws too much current, you may permanently damage the battery or in rare circumstances, it may catch fire.
- If you have a battery mod, purchase an external charger if possible. The built in chargers will work but due to their design they will reduce the overall lifespan of the battery
- Never leave your batteries unattended while charging
- Do not use pen batteries with full-size atomizers, avoid using small batteries in general
- Avoid purchasing an unregulated battery mod
- Monitor battery temperature while vaping
- Use a heat sink if you have a very large mod
- Buy a battery mod where the cell is staggered away from the atomizer – the iStick Pico is an example of this
- Avoid buying the cheapest battery mod as there are many fakes which can be dangerous
- Buy high quality 18650 batteries such as LG HG2 or Samsung 25R
- Check your batteries weekly for any damage
- Use multiple batteries to reduce stress and slow wear
- Observe ohms law, use a vape calculator if you’re not sure
These simple tips will greatly reduce your chance of catching fire while increasing battery life overall. Also, be careful with Yocan batteries as there are many low quality fakes out there and they seem to catch fire from time to time. If there’s anything that you should take from this, never leave your battery alone while it is charging.
